In the Garden Cloth Quiet Book
Based on a book the artist's grandmother, Elly, sewed for her eldest grandchild, this is a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind "quiet book". Within its pages are vintage embroideries and upcycled fabrics which preserve the labor of beautiful stitcheries and bring them into present use. These books focus on the colors, textures, and themes found in nature and slow living. The artist makes them by choosing themes from amongst thrifted and upcycled fabrics and sewing the pieces into book format, while adding her own embroidery along the way. Some elements, such as the bumble bee "fuzz" has been hand-dyed with natural goldenrod.
This book includes a menagerie of garden plants, insects, and birds. There are bumble bees, praying mantises, butterflies, ladybugs, and spiders to discover. There is also a beautifully-detailed, hand-embroidered robin in a nest. The butterfly wings lift to reveal hidden surprises! So sweet!
