The Story of the Burl Root Basket Artistry:
For years, reforestation of the Chinese Fir tree has been ignored.  While cutting down a tree takes a mere 30 minutes, removing the root from the ground takes days of costly labor.  Through the initiative of local farmers and artisans, the tree trunks are being dug up and new trees are sprouting in their place.  Artisans then take these tree trunks and hand carve them into unique pieces like the one you see here.  Like fingerprints, there are no two identical in shape, texture, or grain.  As with all tree trunks, cracking is natural and adds exceptional character and personality to each piece.  With rich texture and wood grain, these pieces are admired worldwide.
