We really like the Caterpillar Game in Tin.  The pieces are a little larger than a quarter and are made of heavy duty cardboard.  Enough Caterpillar heads for 4 players at once.  Roll the dice and pick the next piece that goes on your caterpillar.  There are different levels of difficulty that can be played:  simple or more complex, for different ages.  Great to play while waiting for dinner in a restaurant or by the fire in the living room.  Ages 3 and up.  Made by Haba in Germany.
